Music has a crazy impact in this world. The music nowadays is so degrading and horrible. Most of the newer music is rap; there are young kids all over the world listening to this music. These young children are being greatly impacted and influenced by this music choice. The difference in some of these children is some of them choose to listen to this music willingly or they are forced and are always surrounded by these music choices.
It was recently voted that the 2014 most famous rappers so far are: Macklemore; Ryan Lewis and Lamar; Drake; Rick Ross; Chief Keef and even more. Some teenagers and parents have the same question: “Why are these people chosen for the rappers of 2014?” These rappers were chosen by most likely half of the world. Are the kids actually listening to the words or are they just “bumpin” to the beat to fit in?
Rap music was invented around the 1970’s. It has progressed in the worst way people can think of. The lyrics have become more degrading to women, people in general, religion. The music declined in that it talks about drugs, alcohol, and killings.
Most kids nowadays would call rap from the 80’s corny. I agree with that, but it wasn’t as bad as the music is now. There was less cursing in the music in the 80’s. The rap music back then was very groovy and relaxed unlike now. Yes, some music did talk about women but not as graphically as today’s music.
Below is an example of rap lyrics from the 80’s. “Jump on it” by the Sugar Hill Gang is still a common song that is played. Many people know of this song because of the dance that goes along with it. It is a very playful song:
“Like Kemosabi, of course it's me I'm better known as the Master G. A firing squad sensed the danger. When they're stung by the rapping ranger. Had a little talk with my medicine man. He said, "Get them squaws, fast as you can" To all you girls, that want to join my Tribe. Just move to my rhythm, and feel my vibe. Put up a fuss, in the end you'll agree. When you come inside, my tee-pee. As I said before, you could sense the danger. When you're stung by the rapping ranger. When silver and I, take a route. All you suckers better step aside. I sting squaws, then I run away. Heyo Silver is what I say!”
In contrast, here are more recent rap lyrics from an artist named Drake. Even though he is very good at what he does maybe he should think about the words he’s saying. A famous song of his is, “Worst Behavior.” Here are some lyrics from that song:
“Worst mother****** never loved us; F***** never loved us
you ain't known; now you know now. Still at it, scrub J's with a toothbrush, S***, n***** still playing my old s***
But your s*** is like the police asking us questions, N**** we don't know s***, Flex, n**** I'm just flexin'. N**** never loved us, do it look like we stressin'? Look at you, look at you, and look at you, Ah - I'm glad that they chose us. Command, it's a mission, trying to fight to the finish just to see 'em all finish.”
Just by the beginning of the raps you can tell there are two totally different intentions. From the 80’s it was all about hanging around with friends and smooth corny music. Now it’s all about cursing and women and drugs. A lot more thought was put into the raps back then like stuff that wouldn’t influence teenagers in a bad way.
There were ten curses just in the first verse of Drake’s songs which is only like 30 seconds out of a 5 minute video. That’s pathetic how a person could use that many curse words in such a short period of time. Yet, people still think he’s this amazing artist but all he does is cursing every other word.
What most rappers don’t realize is that music is making up most of this generation and will continue to influence the generation if these artists don’t put some thought into their lyrics. Since these artists are so famous the teenagers and kids think it’s cool to have their music.
